The sibling relation between Darry and Trish that made them feel like actual people, which is brought to life by the acting abilities of the actors portraying them. The main reason for me why the first film was great was because they actually written characters who we gave a damn about.
It’s best to judge these films individually, especially since the storylines are mostly self-contained. I argue that many people seem to disagree with your assertion that realism was important in the first film given the examples you cited, something you never made a distinction of in the original post. I think it’s pretty much agreed that the third film is the worst. I honestly think this franchise is completely undeserving of its popularity. The settings and timelines make no sense whatsoever, and the scripts are just unbelievably bad. The creeper himself, though admittedly pretty cool looking, has a pretty stupid gimmick if you really think about it and goes beyond the bounds of suspension of disbelief to just being unfairly overpowered. Again, the first 15-20 minutes of the franchise are honestly fantastic, setting up incredible tension and mood. They all do as relatively good a job as they can with very inconsistent material, and the first has Justin Long giving it his all. Now to be clear, this is none of the actors fault.

However, I’d honestly argue that the entire series takes a massive decline almost immediately and never gets better than it’s first 15-20 minutes. As most franchises do, especially late 90’s early 2000’s era franchises, it would not be unfair to say that the series radically declined in quality as it went on, with the third and mercifully final entry being by far the worst. Problem is letting his downfall implode a franchise that has potential beyond his controversy.Putting aside my own personal feelings about Victor Salva (he’s a monster), inarguably his most well known film series is Jeepers Creepers. Yes, Victor Salva is a creep and shouldn't receive any Hollywood money or support. Or dropping into every AVENGERS thread to remind people the director of the first two films is a terrible person, therefore the implication is you can be a shitty person, but there's an arbitrary line drawn on how shitty that person can be. While not on the same level, we've learned Joss Whedon can be a bit of a perv (Justice League, literally tried to get Gal Gadot to do something she didn't want because it sexualized her character in a way she didn't like) and treats his cast like shit/bullies them. Its like you said, shitty people can make good films, and films typically aren't a solo ensemble or productio. Jeepers Creepers Reborn is doing the soft reboot/relaunch and so far has been documented that Victor Salva will receive no royalties/payments or any rights to this particular franchise. Salva was on board for JC3 and beyond until the controversy got the limelight and he was removed, as he should have been. The simple action to me is to prevent the lead perpetrators from receiving any future funds/support or royalties. This is like somebody telling me I can't enjoy anything under the Weinstein Umbrella ( which is a FUCKTON of films) because of Harvey Weinstein or that any film under that production shouldn't get any attention.
Justin Long, Gina Phillips, Johnathan Breck all add to it in substantial ways. There were hundreds of people involved with the casting, acting, special effects, and production of those films. It's fine to educate people who don't know, but generally that's not what I get from his name being brought up every time this franchise/films hold discussions.
